Often related to urticaria, it causes small blood vessels to leak fluid into tissues causing swelling.
It can be benign but can also life-threatening depending on the site involved.
However angioedema can uncommonly occur on its own causing difficulty with breathing.
- Face, lip, tongue throat or genital swelling.
Angioedema can be caused by allergies, medications such as NSAIDS and blood pressure tablets ACE-inhibitors. Hereditary angioedema is a condition due to hereditary C1 esterase inhibitor deficiency. In Hereditary angioedema, triggers can include infection and minor trauma including dental work.
Firstly by seeing one of our trained Doctors we can determine whether the angioedema is isolated or associated with urticaria.
Some patients may require blood and /or allergy testing.
